If you think you may be pregnant and are considering abortion, there is certain information you need to know. GMPC Medical provides pre-abortion screening appointments, in order to answer any medical questions you have and to teach you about the potential risks associated with abortion before you actually have one.
What Is Included In A Pre-Abortion Screening Appointment?
Medical History. Your medical history matters to rule out conditions that might make the abortion pill dangerous to you.
Evidence Based Information About Abortion Options
Medical Pregnancy Testing. Get a medical grade pregnancy test to verify pregnancy, you will get the results during your appointment.
Limited Ultrasound. If your pregnancy test is positive, you will want to have your pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound. An ultrasound can give you a lot of valuable information you need to know before obtaining an abortion. You should have an ultrasound so you can know the following specific information about your pregnancy:
- Pregnancy Viability –Its’ not uncommon to experience a miscarriage in the early weeks of pregnancy. An ultrasound can tell you if the baby actually has a heartbeat.
- Pregnancy Dating – It’s important to know how far along your pregnancy is in order to know what abortion options are available to you by the age of the pregnancy and by state law.
- Pregnancy Placement – Sometimes a pregnancy will implant somewhere outside the uterus. This can be a dangerous situation for you if that occurs. It’s smart to get an ultrasound to know the exact placement of your pregnancy.
Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Testing. Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, in women, often do not have any symptoms. Getting tested and receiving treatment will reduce the risk of developing other potential infections linked to the abortion procedure.
